Weekly Activities for Club Step-Up
Week 1: 2/7 (Team-Building Week)
Students will work together to participate in a variety of team-building exercises, including back-to-back partner drawing, the Great Chain Race, the Save Sam Challenge, and the Index Card Tower Challenge.
Week 2: 2/14 (Random Acts of Kindness Week)
Step-Up students will learn to “give back” through participation in community service projects. Projects will include developing art for senior citizens, designing a collaborative kindness poster for the SVC campus, making toys for shelter pets, and creating scarves for the Scarf Bombardier organization.
Week 3: 2/21 (Strategy and Gaming Week)
Students will be able to play their choice of card/board games. Options may include Chutes and Ladders, Candyland, Charades, Jenga, UNO, Scrabble, Monopoly, Checkers, and/or Chess.
Week 4: 2/28 (Arts and Crafts Week)
Students will explore art (painting, free drawing, etc.) and/or create age-appropriate spring-themed crafts (melted wax butterfly, jar lid suncatcher, pressed flower vase, pony bead lizard, etc.).
Week 5: 3/14 (STEAM Week)
Younger children will code BeeBots, build straw mazes, and/or experiment with Makey Makeys, while older children will code Ozobots, design paper ball runs, or create imitation art with household items.
Week 6: 3/21 (Puzzle Room Week)
Students will work in small groups to complete a variety of developmentally-appropriate puzzles and riddles. Each correct answer will move participants closer to finding a hidden treasure!
Week 7: 3/28 (Creativity Week)
Younger students may create yarn/scratch art, design bracelets, or complete an unfinished picture/story. Older students may create yarn-wrapped cardboard initials, design an invention, or perform a monologue.
Week 8: 4/4 (Around SVC Week)
Younger students will complete a variety of SVC-related activities, including competing in “Bearcat Science Trivia” and creating a new mascot for Step-Up. Older students will receive a guided tour of some of the highlights of Saint Vincent’s campus, including the cafeteria, Carey Student Center, Dupre Science Building, and Sebastian’s Garden.
Week 9: 4/11 (Field Day)
Grade-level teams will compete in a variety of field day events, including an egg-and-spoon race, a hula hoop marathon, limbo, pool noodle mini golf, and horseshoes.
Week 10: 4/25 (End-of-Year Celebration)
Students will celebrate the end of the Step-Up year by crafting memory books, creating time capsules, and playing a variety of graduation and summer-related games.
