Weekly Activities for Club Step-Up
Week 1: September 20 (Strategy and Gaming Week)
Students will be able to play their choice of card/board games. Options may include Chutes and Ladders, Candyland, Charades, Jenga, UNO, Scrabble, Monopoly, Checkers, and/or Chess.
Week 2: September 27 (Wellness Week)
Younger students will participate in a variety of physical fitness activities, while older students will have the opportunity to play table tennis or other sports. A “gardening space” will also be available for older students who prefer a non-physical option.
Week 3: October 4 (Art and Craft Week)
Students will explore art (origami, free draw, etc.) and/or create age-appropriate fall-themed crafts (stuffed bag scarecrows, leaf hedgehogs, fall doodle art, no-sew fabric pumpkins, autumn door handle signs, etc.).
Week 4: October 11 (Minute to Win It Week)
Students will “race against the clock” to complete a variety of fun mini-challenges, including tower building, balloon juggling, dice stacking, and more!
Week 5: October 18 (Maker Week)
Younger children will have hands-on experiences with Legos, Kinetic sand, and BeeBots, while older children will tinker with Ozobots and LittleBits.
Week 6: October 25 (Film Week)
Students in K/1 will watch The Gruffalo (2009) and complete movie-themed companion activities. Students in grades 2 and up will watch a variety of CGI-animated short films, learn about the film-making process, and storyboard their own short film. SkinnyPop popcorn will be available as a snack.
Week 7: 11/1 (Creativity Week)
Younger students may make an instrument, craft puppets, experiment with watercolors, or draw. Older students may create a comic, write poetry, or perform a brief readers theater production.
Week 8: 11/8 (Puzzle Room Week)
Students will work in small-groups to complete a variety of developmentally-appropriate puzzles and riddles. Each correct answer will move participants closer to solving a mystery/unlocking a prize!
Week 9: 11/15 (Service Learning Week)
Step-Up students will learn to “give back” through participation in a community service project. Younger children will design placemats/bookmarks for Meals on Wheels, while older children will create toys for shelter pets or make Project Linus no-sew blankets.
Week 10: 11/22 (Festival Week)
Students will engage in a variety of seasonal festivities, such as ornament/wreath making, greeting card exchange, reindeer ring toss, and/or snowman paper cup bowling.
